Elena Gheorghe is a Romanian pop singer born in 1985. She first became known as the lead vocalist of the Latin-pop group Mandinga before beginning a solo career, and her best-known songs include “The Balkan Girls,” “Disco Romancing,” “Midnight Sun” and “Ecou.”

With Mandinga, she competed in Romania’s 2005 national selection with “Soarele meu.” Four years later, as a solo artist, she won the same competition with “The Balkan Girls” and performed the song in both the semifinal and Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow.
