Elisabeth Leonskaja in Weingarten

Elisabeth Leonskaja is an Austrian classical pianist of Georgian origin, born in Tbilisi in 1945. She studied at the Moscow Conservatory and settled in Vienna in 1978. Her repertoire and recordings have centred on composers including Schubert, Beethoven, Brahms and Schumann. Her appearance at the 1979 Salzburg Festival marked an early milestone in her concert life after leaving the Soviet Union. She went on to give recitals at the Musikverein and the Konzerthaus, while also performing as a concerto soloist with orchestras across Europe. Chamber music formed another major part of her stage work, including a long association with the Alban Berg Quartet.
