Enslaved are a Norwegian metal band formed in Haugesund in 1991 by Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson. Early albums such as Vikingligr Veldi and Frost joined black metal with themes drawn from Norse history and mythology; later records including Below the Lights, Isa and Axioma Ethica Odini expanded their sound into progressive metal. In 2015, Enslaved marked their anniversary at Roadburn Festival with a fan-selected set later issued as Roadburn Live. They headed the 2018 Decibel Magazine Tour in North America, where the lineup also included Wolves in the Throne Room, Myrkur and Khemmis. A 2023 North American co-headlining tour paired Enslaved with Insomnium and support act Black Anvil.
Sólstafir is an Icelandic rock and metal band formed in Reykjavík in 1995. Its early recordings were rooted in black metal, while later albums such as Köld, Svartir Sandar and Ótta moved toward post-metal, post-rock and psychedelic rock. “Fjara” became one of the band’s best-known songs. Following Svartir Sandar and Ótta, Sólstafir toured European clubs and theatres and performed at Roadburn Festival and Hellfest. The band also crossed the Atlantic for North American tours, playing clubs in the United States and Canada.
