Fairport Convention are a British folk-rock band formed in London in 1967. Their late-1960s albums What We Did on Our Holidays, Unhalfbricking and Liege & Lief established an approach rooted in traditional material and original songwriting. “Who Knows Where the Time Goes?”, “Matty Groves” and “Meet on the Ledge” are among the songs most closely associated with the band. A 1979 farewell concert in Oxfordshire led to reunion gatherings and eventually to the annual Fairport’s Cropredy Convention. Fairport Convention re-formed in 1985 and resumed recording and touring, while the 2017 edition of the festival marked the band’s 50th anniversary and included former members Richard Thompson and Ashley Hutchings. The band played the 1971 Glastonbury Fayre and has also appeared at Cambridge Folk Festival.
