Gareth Gates in New Taipei

Gareth Gates is an English pop singer and musical-theatre performer, born in Bradford in 1984. He finished as runner-up in the first series of Pop Idol, then reached number one in the UK with his debut single, “Unchained Melody.” His other best-known songs include “Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake)” and “Spirit in the Sky,” while his early albums include What My Heart Wants to Say and Go Your Own Way. The 2002 Pop Idol arena tour took Gates around the UK with the other finalists, and later that year he toured arenas with Will Young. In 2009 he took the title role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at London’s Adelphi Theatre, before playing Marius in the touring production of Les Misérables and its 25th Anniversary Concert at The O2.
