Gladiators in Liverpool

Gladiators are a Jamaican roots-reggae group formed in Kingston in 1965 by Albert Griffiths, David Webber and Errol Grandison. Their close vocal harmonies and steady rhythms are heard on songs including “Hello Carol,” “Bongo Red” and “Jah Works,” while the albums Trenchtown Mix Up and Proverbial Reggae established the core of their catalogue. Gladiators performed at Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica and later toured repeatedly through Europe. Albert Griffiths led the touring band for decades; after he retired from the road, his son Al Griffiths took over as lead singer.
