Gnarls Barkley is an American duo formed in Atlanta in 2003 by singer CeeLo Green and producer Danger Mouse. They make soul, funk, hip-hop, rock and psychedelic music, and debuted with the single “Crazy” and the 2006 album St. Elsewhere. “Crazy” won the Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance, while St. Elsewhere won Best Alternative Music Album; the duo followed it with The Odd Couple in 2008. Gnarls Barkley made their live debut at California’s Coachella festival in April 2006, dressed as characters from The Wizard of Oz. Film-inspired costumes remained part of their stage presentation at later 2006 performances, including Wireless Festival and a concert at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.
CeeLo Green is an American singer, rapper and songwriter from Atlanta, born in 1975. He first became known through the Southern hip-hop group Goodie Mob and the Dungeon Family collective, then formed Gnarls Barkley with producer Danger Mouse and sang their hit “Crazy.” His solo album The Lady Killer included “Fuck You,” also issued in a clean version as “Forget You.” The Lady Killer Tour followed the album and presented his solo catalogue in a full-band show. In 2013, he staged CeeLo Green Presents Loberace at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, a residency featuring his own songs and soul and pop covers. He performed at Coachella in 2011 and played Glastonbury later that year. A concert recorded during the same period documented his appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
