Godspeed You! Black Emperor in Norwalk

Godspeed You! Black Emperor is a Canadian instrumental experimental-rock collective formed in Montreal in 1994. Long compositions built from guitars, strings, drones, field recordings and gradual crescendos became their signature, particularly on the albums F♯ A♯ ∞ and Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven. In December 2010, the group returned from a long hiatus to curate and perform at All Tomorrow’s Parties’ Nightmare Before Christmas in Minehead. They then resumed touring, and in 2018 served as artists in residence at Roadburn in Tilburg, performing several sets across the festival. A Godspeed You! Black Emperor concert features an ensemble of electric guitars, bass, drums and violin, often opening with the piece known as “Hope Drone.” The music is accompanied by 16mm film projections created and performed live by longtime visual collaborator Karl Lemieux.
