Grand Funk Railroad is an American rock band formed in Flint, Michigan, in 1969 by Mark Farner, Don Brewer and Mel Schacher. They play hard rock shaped by blues, boogie and funk rhythms, and are known for “I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home),” “We're an American Band,” “The Loco-Motion” and “Some Kind of Wonderful.” Grand Funk Railroad performed at the Atlanta International Pop Festival in 1969 and returned for its 1970 edition. Those appearances preceded a 1971 headline concert at Shea Stadium in New York. After the original members reunited in the 1990s, the band performed benefit concerts for Bosnia at The Palace of Auburn Hills in 1997, accompanied by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
The Marshall Tucker Band is an American Southern rock group formed in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in 1972. Its music draws on rock, country, blues and jazz, and the group is known for “Can’t You See,” “Heard It in a Love Song,” “Fire on the Mountain” and the album Carolina Dreams. The Marshall Tucker Band opened shows for the Allman Brothers Band early in its career, then documented its original lineup on the concert portion of 1974’s Where We All Belong, recorded in Milwaukee. Decades of performances at theatres, concert halls and festivals followed, and the group marked its formation milestone with the 50th Anniversary Tour in 2022.
