About Gretchen Parlato
Gretchen Parlato is an American jazz vocalist born in Los Angeles in 1976, known for rhythmically precise phrasing and a repertoire shaped by contemporary jazz and Brazilian music. She won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition in 2004. Her principal recordings include In a Dream, The Lost and Found and Flor, as well as Lean In, her collaboration with guitarist Lionel Loueke.
Live in NYC documents her engagement at Rockwood Music Hall and was released as both an album and a concert film. She performs in a quartet, moving between lyrics and wordless vocal lines in close rhythmic interplay with Taylor Eigsti, Alan Hampton and Mark Guiliana.
