Guthrie Govan is a British guitarist, born in Chelmsford in 1971, whose music draws on jazz fusion, rock and blues. His solo album Erotic Cakes, including “Fives” and “Wonderful Slippery Thing,” established key pieces of his instrumental repertoire, while his work with The Aristocrats, Asia, Steven Wilson and Hans Zimmer brought his playing to several distinct audiences.

Govan toured with Asia in the early 2000s, then formed The Aristocrats with bassist Bryan Beller and drummer Marco Minnemann in 2011. The trio toured extensively behind its self-titled debut and later records including Culture Clash and Tres Caballeros; during the same decade, he played in Steven Wilson’s touring band for the concert cycles surrounding The Raven That Refused to Sing (And Other Stories) and Hand. Cannot. Erase. He subsequently joined the guitar section of Hans Zimmer Live, whose 2017 appearances included Coachella.
