Happy Mondays are an English band formed in Salford in 1980. Their alternative rock, acid-house rhythms and dance grooves became central to the Madchester sound. They are known for the albums Bummed and Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches, and for songs including “Step On,” “Kinky Afro” and “24 Hour Party People.” Happy Mondays played Glastonbury Festival in 1990 and Rock in Rio in 1991. After their initial split in 1992 and later reunions, the original lineup returned for a UK tour in 2012. Happy Mondays perform as a full band: Shaun Ryder handles lead vocals, and Bez dances and plays maracas.
