Herb Alpert & Lani Hall are an American husband-and-wife jazz-pop duo centered on Herb Alpert’s trumpet and Lani Hall’s singing. Herb Alpert is known for leading the Tijuana Brass on “The Lonely Bull,” “A Taste of Honey” and “Spanish Flea”; Lani Hall was the lead singer of Sérgio Mendes & Brasil ’66 and sang on “Mas Que Nada.” Their recordings together include Anything Goes and I Feel You, and Lani Hall appears on Herb Alpert’s Grammy-winning album Steppin’ Out. Since 2006, they have toured together with a small band, performing Tijuana Brass pieces, songs associated with Brasil ’66, standards and their joint recordings. Their long-running concert lineup has included keyboardist and vocalist Bill Cantos, bassist Hussain Jiffry and drummer Michael Shapiro. The concert format pairs Herb Alpert on trumpet with Lani Hall on lead vocals.
Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass is an American instrumental group created by trumpeter, composer and producer Herb Alpert. The project began with “The Lonely Bull” and became known for bright, brass-led pop and easy listening shaped by jazz and Latin rhythms. Its signature recordings include “A Taste of Honey,” “Spanish Flea” and “Tijuana Taxi,” as well as the albums Whipped Cream & Other Delights and Going Places. In 1965, demand for concert appearances led Alpert to turn the recording project into a touring band. The ensemble spent the following years playing concert halls and appearing in television productions, including the 1968 special The Beat of the Brass.
