Holly Cole in Montreal

Holly Cole is a Canadian jazz singer from Halifax whose repertoire draws on vocal jazz and pop. She formed the Holly Cole Trio in Toronto with pianist Aaron Davis and bassist David Piltch, and became known for albums including Don’t Smoke in Bed and the Tom Waits songbook Temptation, as well as interpretations of “Calling You” and “I Can See Clearly Now.” The concert album It Happened One Night documented her trio-based stage work in the 1990s. Live in Tokyo provided another record of that period, while the later filmed performance Steal the Night: Live at the Glenn Gould Studio preserved her small-ensemble concert format.
