About Holly Near
Holly Near is an American folk singer-songwriter, actor and activist, born in Ukiah, California, in 1949. Her work is closely associated with feminist, LGBTQ and anti-war movements, and her best-known songs include “Singing for Our Lives” and “It Could Have Been Me.” Her albums include Hang in There and Imagine My Surprise.
In 1971, she joined Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland in the anti-Vietnam War FTA Show, which performed for US service members near military bases. In 1984, she toured in HARP with Ronnie Gilbert, Arlo Guthrie and Pete Seeger; performances by the quartet were documented on the live album HARP.
Her festival appearances have included the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival and the National Women’s Music Festival.
