About Huun-Huur-Tu
Huun-Huur-Tu is a Russian folk ensemble formed in Kyzyl, Tuva, in 1992. The group is known for Tuvan throat singing and traditional string instruments, documented on albums including 60 Horses in My Herd and The Orphan’s Lament.
During the 1990s, Huun-Huur-Tu began touring internationally, presenting this repertoire in theatres and at world-music festivals across Europe and North America. Those tours included appearances at WOMAD, where the ensemble’s vocal tradition reached audiences beyond its home region.
Concerts feature several styles of throat singing alongside igil, doshpuluur, khomus and percussion. Long-serving member Kaigal-ool Khovalyg performs both khöömei and the low-register kargyraa style.
