Ian Maksin is a Russian-American cellist, composer and singer who was born in Leningrad and is based in Chicago. His repertoire includes contemporary classical compositions, folk melodies and multilingual songs; his recordings include the albums Sempre and Zaria. In 2022, Maksin began performing benefit concerts for people affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. His solo program uses amplified cello, looping and vocals, and he has presented it in the United States and Europe under the name Cello for Peace.
