About Iiro Rantala

Iiro Rantala is a Finnish jazz pianist and composer, born in Helsinki in 1970. He co-founded Trio Töykeät and became known through the group’s rhythmically agile contemporary jazz, then established a solo catalogue that includes Lost Heroes and My History of Jazz.

Trio Töykeät toured internationally for much of its career, performing in jazz clubs and at festivals before disbanding. In 2012, Iiro Rantala joined Leszek Możdżer and Michael Wollny for the inaugural Jazz at Berlin Philharmonic concert, a three-piano performance documented on an official live album. He has also presented solo and ensemble programmes at JazzBaltica.
