Imarhan in Bologna

Imarhan are an Algerian Tuareg band formed in Tamanrasset in 2006. They play desert blues rooted in Tuareg guitar music, adding funk rhythms and elements of Algerian pop to songs sung largely in Tamasheq. The albums Imarhan, Temet and Aboogi include tracks such as “Tahabort,” “Azzaman” and “Achinkad.” Imarhan took their self-titled debut on the road as a five-piece and played Roskilde Festival during that album’s touring cycle. Later performances brought material from Aboogi to Glastonbury Festival, while their wider festival history has also included WOMAD.
