Artists
In Extremo is a German medieval metal band formed in 1995. Its heavy rock arrangements feature bagpipes, shawms and hurdy-gurdy, and the group is known for songs including “Herr Mannelig,” “Vollmond” and “Küss mich,” as well as the albums Weckt die Toten! and Sünder ohne Zügel. A 2002 concert at the Kyffhäuser Monument was released as Live 2002. The band recorded another concert film at Arena Berlin in 2005, issued as Raue Spree 2005, while Am goldenen Rhein documented its 2008 performance at the Palladium in Cologne. In Extremo performs as a full band, placing its medieval instruments in the same lineup as electric guitars, bass and drums. Its festival appearances have included Wacken Open Air and M’era Luna.
Feuerschwanz is a German medieval folk-metal band formed in Erlangen in 2004. The group is known for humorous German-language lyrics, medieval stage personas and a sound built around heavy guitars, violin and folk instrumentation. Key releases include the albums Das Elfte Gebot, Memento Mori and Fegefeuer, while “Das Elfte Gebot” and “Metfest” are among its established songs. A 2020 concert at Burg Abenberg became the filmed performance Die letzte Schlacht. The band later brought its costumed full-band show to Wacken Open Air in 2022 and Summer Breeze Open Air in 2023.
