The James Taylor Quartet is a British acid-jazz and funk group formed in 1985 by Hammond organist James Taylor after the breakup of The Prisoners. The band became known for organ-led versions of film and television themes, including “Blow-Up,” “Mission: Impossible” and “The Theme from Starsky and Hutch,” as well as original material such as “Love the Life” and the album In the Hand of the Inevitable. Absolute: JTQ Live documented the quartet’s early-1990s concert repertoire and its core lineup of Hammond organ, guitar, bass and drums. In later years, the group played repeated London dates at Jazz Cafe and Ronnie Scott’s.
