About Jan Garbarek Group feat. Trilok Gurtu
Jan Garbarek Group feat. Trilok Gurtu is the touring quartet led by Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek and featuring Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu. The music is spacious European jazz built around improvisation and folk-derived melodies. Jan Garbarek is known for ECM albums including Afric Pepperbird and Twelve Moons, as well as Officium, recorded with the Hilliard Ensemble; Trilok Gurtu has also recorded and performed with John McLaughlin and Oregon.
A 2007 concert at Alter Schlachthof in Dresden was released by ECM as Dresden, the first live album issued under Jan Garbarek’s name. Trilok Gurtu later joined the touring lineup, adding drums, tabla and other percussion to the established combination of saxophones, keyboards and electric bass. In this configuration, Jan Garbarek performs alongside keyboardist Rainer Brüninghaus, bassist Yuri Daniel and Trilok Gurtu.
