Jay Smith is a Swedish rock singer and songwriter from Helsingborg, born in 1981. The former Von Benzo frontman won Idol in 2010 and is known for songs including “Dreaming People,” “King of Man” and “Back to My Roots,” drawing on alternative rock, grunge and country rock. The 2010 Idol final brought him to Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, where he performed before winning the season. In 2024 he returned to a televised arena competition with “Back to My Roots,” taking the song through Melodifestivalen to the final at Friends Arena.
