About Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra
Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra is an American big band founded in New York in 1988 and led by trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis as music director. Its repertoire draws on jazz history, particularly the music of Duke Ellington, alongside commissions and compositions by orchestra members. Its recordings include Live in Swing City and The Abyssinian Mass.
The opening of Frederick P. Rose Hall in 2004 gave the orchestra a permanent concert base at Lincoln Center, where it presents themed programs in Rose Theater. The ensemble traveled to Havana in 2010 for performances at Teatro Mella, and recordings from that visit became the album Live in Cuba.
The orchestra also performed overseas at the Barbican in London and the Sydney Opera House.
