Joey Alexander in Wellington

Joey Alexander is an Indonesian jazz pianist and composer, born in Bali in 2003 and raised in Jakarta. He became known while still a child through his interpretations of jazz standards and his debut album, My Favorite Things, which received Grammy nominations. Later albums including Countdown, Eclipse and Origin expanded his repertoire of original modern jazz. In 2014, Wynton Marsalis invited him to perform at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s annual gala at the Rose Theater in New York. He made his Newport Jazz Festival debut the following year, then performed at the 2016 Grammy Awards.
