Johanna Summer in Wernigerode

Johanna Summer is a German pianist and composer, born in Plauen in 1995, who plays contemporary jazz grounded in improvisation and the classical piano repertoire. Her solo debut Schumann Kaleidoskop used Robert Schumann’s music as the basis for freely developing piano pieces, while Resonanzen continued her solo-piano work. At JazzBaltica, Johanna Summer appeared alone at the piano, the format at the centre of her recordings and recital work. She later began performing as a duo with saxophonist Jakob Manz; The Gallery Concerts documented their improvised dialogue at the ACT Art Collection in Berlin.
