Artist
Jojo Mayer is a Swiss drummer, born in Zurich in 1963, known for translating the speed and phrasing of programmed drum-and-bass rhythms into live drumming. He founded Nerve, a group that performs electronic music in real time, and documented his technique in the instructional release Secret Weapons for the Modern Drummer. At 18, Jojo Mayer toured internationally with jazz pianist Monty Alexander. After moving to New York, he developed the Prohibited Beatz club night and formed Nerve from that project, creating a recurring setting for the group’s live electronic repertoire. Nerve went on to tour clubs and festivals, and he also gave a solo performance at the 2005 Modern Drummer Festival.
