José González in Manchester

José González is a Swedish singer-songwriter and guitarist, born in Gothenburg in 1978. His acoustic folk songs are built around fingerpicked guitar and restrained vocals. His debut solo album, Veneer, includes “Crosses” and his cover of The Knife’s “Heartbeats”; later records include In Our Nature, Vestiges & Claws and Local Valley. He is also a member of Junip. In 2017, González toured Europe with the orchestral collective The String Theory, and recordings from those concerts became the album Live in Europe. In 2023, he marked two decades of his debut by performing the record in full on the Veneer 20th Anniversary Tour.
