Joshua Bell in Costa Mesa

Joshua Bell is an American violinist, born in Bloomington, Indiana, in 1967. He is known for his interpretations of the classical violin repertoire, the album Romance of the Violin, and his performance of John Corigliano’s score for the film The Red Violin. At 14, Bell made his orchestral debut under Riccardo Muti with the Philadelphia Orchestra. His Carnegie Hall debut followed in 1985 with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. In 2007, he performed incognito at L’Enfant Plaza station in Washington as part of an experiment organized by The Washington Post. In 2011, he became music director of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. His concerts with the chamber orchestra have combined solo playing with direction from the violin. He has given recitals and orchestral concerts throughout the United States. In the United Kingdom, his festival appearances have included the BBC Proms in London.
