Kathy Mattea in Minneapolis

Kathy Mattea is an American country and folk singer-songwriter, born in 1959 in South Charleston, West Virginia. She is known for songs including “Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses,” “Where've You Been” and “Come from the Heart.” Her albums Coal and Calling Me Home draw on Appalachian music and the region’s mining history. Kathy Mattea joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1990 and has returned to its Nashville stage throughout her career. After numerous guest appearances on Mountain Stage, she became host of the live public-radio program in 2021, presenting concerts at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston and on its traveling editions.
