Keola Beamer is an American guitarist, singer and composer born in Honolulu in 1951. A member of the Beamer musical family, he plays Hawaiian slack-key guitar, using open tunings and fingerstyle technique. He is best known for writing “Honolulu City Lights,” which he recorded with his brother Kapono Beamer as the Beamer Brothers. During the 1970s, Keola Beamer performed and recorded with Kapono Beamer before establishing a solo concert career. He later took Keola Beamer’s Masters of Hawaiian Music to performing-arts venues across the continental United States, presenting slack-key guitar, song, chant and hula in a program featuring Jeff Peterson and Moanalani Beamer.
Henry Kapono is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist from Honolulu who plays Hawaiian folk rock, pop and rhythm and blues. He first became known as half of Cecilio & Kapono, whose recordings include “Sailin’” and “Highway in the Sun,” and later built a solo catalogue led by songs such as “Friends” and “Duke’s on Sunday.” Henry Kapono established a long-running Sunday engagement at Duke’s Waikiki, the Honolulu venue celebrated in “Duke’s on Sunday.” He has also returned to the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena for Cecilio & Kapono reunion concerts.
