Kim Gordon in Brooklyn

Kim Gordon is an American musician and visual artist, born in Rochester, New York, in 1953 and raised in Los Angeles. She co-founded Sonic Youth in 1981 and played bass, guitar and sang on records including Daydream Nation and Goo. Her solo albums include No Home Record and The Collective, whose songs place her spoken and sung vocals against distorted guitar and electronic rhythms. In 1991, Gordon toured European festivals with the band and Nirvana, a tour documented in the film 1991: The Year Punk Broke. The group played its final concert in 2011 at SWU Music & Arts Festival in Itu, Brazil. Gordon later began presenting her solo work with a live band, and in 2024 she performed material from The Collective at Primavera Sound in Barcelona and Glastonbury.
