Kino in San Francisco

Kino are a Soviet rock band formed in 1981 and led by singer-songwriter Viktor Tsoi. Associated with post-punk and new wave, they released their debut album, 45, in 1982; later records included Gruppa Krovi and Zvezda Po Imeni Solntse. “Khochu peremen!” became an anthem for Soviet youth after appearing in the film Assa. Following Tsoi’s death in 1990, the group released the record they had been completing as Cherniy Albom. Kino began performing at the Leningrad Rock Club, an important venue for Soviet rock groups. Their live reach later extended beyond the Soviet Union, culminating in a 1989 tour of the United States.
