Kurt Rosenwinkel is an American jazz guitarist and composer, born in Philadelphia in 1970, whose music is rooted in post-bop and contemporary jazz. His recordings include The Next Step, Heartcore, Star of Jupiter and Caipi, and he has also played in Paul Motian’s Electric Bebop Band and the co-founded quartet Human Feel. During a 2006 engagement at New York’s Village Vanguard, Rosenwinkel recorded the quintet later heard on The Remedy: Live at the Village Vanguard, featuring Mark Turner, Aaron Goldberg, Joe Martin and Eric Harland. He later toured music from Star of Jupiter and Caipi in trio, quartet and larger-ensemble settings; the Caipi performances featured Brazilian guitarist Pedro Martins.
Gerald Clayton is an American jazz pianist and composer, born in Utrecht in 1984 and raised in Los Angeles. The son of bassist and composer John Clayton, he is known for contemporary post-bop heard on albums including Two-Shade, Bond: The Paris Sessions and Tributary Tales. Gerald Clayton spent several years as the pianist in trumpeter Roy Hargrove’s quintet before leading his own small groups. He later performed at Charles Lloyd’s 80th-birthday concert at the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara, documented on 8: Kindred Spirits (Live from the Lobero). A 2019 engagement by his quintet produced Happening: Live at the Village Vanguard.
