Lalah Hathaway in Alexandria

Lalah Hathaway is an American R&B, soul and jazz singer born in Chicago in 1968. The daughter of Donny Hathaway, she made her recording debut with the self-titled album Lalah Hathaway and is known for songs including “Heaven Knows,” “Forever, for Always, for Love” and “Angel.” She also recorded The Song Lives On with pianist Joe Sample and contributed the multi-note vocal performance heard on Snarky Puppy’s “Something.” In 2015, Lalah Hathaway recorded the concert album Lalah Hathaway Live at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, the venue where her father had made part of his own live album. NPR Music later featured her and her band in a Tiny Desk Concert, bringing the close vocal arrangements of her touring show into the series’ compact setting. The Jazz Cafe has hosted Lalah Hathaway’s full-band concerts in London. Her club appearances in Tokyo have included Blue Note Tokyo.
