Laura Benanti is an American actress and singer born in New York City in 1979. She is known for her work in musical theatre, including her Tony Award-winning performance as Louise in Gypsy and nominated roles in Swing!, Into the Woods, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and She Loves Me. Laura Benanti made her Broadway debut in the 1998 revival of The Sound of Music, initially understudying Maria before taking over the role. Her concert work was documented on the 2013 live album In Constant Search of the Right Kind of Attention, recorded at Feinstein’s/54 Below.
