Thy Catafalque in Budapest

Thy Catafalque is a Hungarian avant-garde metal project founded in Makó in 1998 by Tamás Kátai and guitarist János Juhász. Later developed as Kátai’s solo project, its music draws on black metal, progressive rock, electronic composition and Hungarian folk traditions. Its central albums include Róka Hasa Rádió, Rengeteg, Meta, Naiv and Vadak. In 2021, Thy Catafalque gave its first concert at Fekete Zaj Festival in Mátra-Sástó after more than two decades as a studio project. An expanded cast of vocalists and instrumentalists performed music from across the catalogue, and the concert was documented as Mezolit: Live at Fekete Zaj. The live ensemble subsequently performed at Roadburn Festival in Tilburg in 2023.
