Les Charbonniers de l’Enfer are a Canadian vocal folk group formed in Quebec in 1994. They perform traditional Québécois songs a cappella, drawing on work songs, narrative ballads and dance tunes; their recordings include Chansons a cappella, Wô and Nouvelles fréquentations. The concert album En personne documents the group’s core live format: five male voices supported by foot percussion and vocalized dance rhythms. They later brought that approach to La traverse miraculeuse, a collaborative recording and stage production with Québécois singer-songwriter Gilles Vigneault.
