Little Feat in Charleston

Little Feat is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1969 by singer-guitarist Lowell George and keyboardist Bill Payne. They play rock shaped by blues, funk, country and New Orleans rhythm and blues. The band is known for songs including “Willin’” and “Dixie Chicken,” and for the albums Sailin’ Shoes, Dixie Chicken and Feats Don’t Fail Me Now. Concerts at the Rainbow Theatre in London and Lisner Auditorium in Washington were recorded in 1977 for the live album Waiting for Columbus. The group returned in 1987 and resumed touring after an extended hiatus. In 2022, Little Feat performed the live album in full on the Waiting for Columbus 45th Anniversary Tour.

Shovels & Rope is an American duo from Charleston, South Carolina, formed by married musicians Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent. They play Americana, folk and alt-country, and are known for the 2012 album O’ Be Joyful and songs including “Birmingham” and “Gasoline.” Their later records include Swimmin’ Time and Little Seeds. The duo played Newport Folk Festival in 2013 while touring O’ Be Joyful, and that period on the road was captured in the documentary The Ballad of Shovels and Rope. In 2017, they helped launch High Water Festival in North Charleston and performed at its inaugural edition. Their core live setup has both members singing and switching between guitar, drums and other instruments, dividing the parts between Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent.
