About Lynyrd Skynyrd
Lynyrd Skynyrd is an American southern-rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1964. Guitar-driven songs including “Free Bird,” “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Simple Man” established the group’s sound, while its early catalogue includes the albums Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd and Second Helping.
The 1976 live album One More from the Road was recorded at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta and documented the band’s first era shortly before the 1977 plane crash. Surviving members regrouped for the Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Tour in 1987, and the Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour began in 2018. The band later toured with ZZ Top on the Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour.
The concert lineup is a full rock band arranged around multiple electric guitars, and “Free Bird” traditionally serves as an extended finale. Johnny Van Zant has handled lead vocals since the 1987 reunion.
