Machel Montano in Toronto

Machel Montano is a Trinidadian singer and songwriter, born in 1974, whose power soca and groovy soca recordings have shaped his career since he began performing as a child. He later led the band Xtatik and is known for songs including “Big Truck,” “Mr. Fete,” “Like Ah Boss” and “Fast Wine.” Machel Montano won multiple International Soca Monarch titles through performances of songs such as “Advantage,” “Pump Yuh Flag,” “Ministry of Road” and “Like Ah Boss.” He also established Machel Monday as an annual Trinidad Carnival headline concert, staging editions at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain.
