Magic Sword is an American electronic trio formed in Boise, Idaho, in 2013. The group plays instrumental synthwave shaped by retro science-fiction and fantasy soundtracks, and its masked members appear as the Keeper, the Seer and the Weaver. Its releases include Volume 1, Legend and Endless; “In the Face of Evil” became widely known through its use in the trailer for Thor: Ragnarok. A 2016 full-performance session for KEXP documented the trio’s concert setup of synthesizers, electric guitar and live drums. The musicians retain their masks and fictional identities onstage, extending the visual mythology of their records into the show. Magic Sword has presented that format on North American club dates and during hometown appearances at Treefort Music Fest in Boise.
