Maria Arnal in Barcelona

Maria Arnal is a Spanish singer and composer from Badalona who performs experimental pop rooted in Iberian oral tradition and electronic music. She became known through the duo Maria Arnal i Marcel Bagés, formed with guitarist Marcel Bagés, and the albums 45 cerebros y 1 corazón and Clamor. Their best-known songs include “Tú que vienes a rondarme,” “Fiera de mí” and “Jaque.” The concerts for 45 cerebros y 1 corazón centered on Maria Arnal’s voice and Marcel Bagés’s electric guitar. The Clamor shows expanded that format through electronics and processed vocals, reflecting the album’s collaborations with Holly Herndon and Kronos Quartet. Maria Arnal i Marcel Bagés performed at Primavera Sound. Maria Arnal later presented Hiperutopia, a choral work using artificial intelligence as a vocal instrument, at Sónar.
