Marilyn Maye is an American jazz, pop and cabaret singer, born in Wichita, Kansas, in 1928. She recorded for RCA Victor and became known for interpretations of “Cabaret” and “Step to the Rear,” as well as her many appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

A long engagement at the Colony Steak House in Kansas City helped establish her nightclub career and led Steve Allen to feature her on television. Decades later, she performed at the Mabel Mercer Foundation’s Cabaret Convention and began a new series of New York engagements, including headline appearances at the Metropolitan Room, Feinstein’s at Loews Regency and 54 Below.
