Jonas Kaufmann is a German operatic tenor, born in Munich in 1969. He is known for dramatic roles in operas by Wagner, Verdi and Puccini, including Lohengrin, Otello and Cavaradossi in Tosca. His recordings include Romantic Arias and Du bist die Welt für mich. He made his Metropolitan Opera debut in 2006 as Alfredo in La traviata. A title-role appearance in Lohengrin marked his Bayreuth Festival debut in 2010, and in 2017 he first sang Otello at the Royal Opera House in London. His concert work includes orchestral aria programmes and song recitals, often performed with pianist Helmut Deutsch. In Austria, he has appeared at the Vienna State Opera and Salzburg Festival; his Italian engagements have included La Scala in Milan.
