Mark Farina in Grand Rapids

Mark Farina is an American DJ and producer born in Chicago in 1969. He is known for deep house and for Mushroom Jazz, his mix-album series built around downtempo hip-hop, jazz, soul and electronic music. His releases also include the album Air Farina. In 1992, he established Mushroom Jazz as a weekly party in San Francisco. The concept later became a touring club event, while his house sets also took him to festivals including Coachella. His DJ performances have two established formats: deep and Chicago house sets, and slower sets centered on jazz samples and hip-hop beats. The latter retain the Mushroom Jazz billing.
