MC Lyte in Chicago

MC Lyte is the stage name of Lana Michele Moorer, an American rapper born in Queens in 1970 and raised in Brooklyn’s East Flatbush neighborhood. Her 1988 debut, Lyte as a Rock, was the first full rap album released by a solo woman. Her recordings include “Paper Thin,” “Cha Cha Cha,” “Ruffneck,” “Keep On, Keepin’ On” and “Cold Rock a Party.” In 2014, MC Lyte became the first woman to perform hip-hop at the White House.
