Meklit in San Francisco

Meklit is an Ethiopian-American singer-songwriter, born in Addis Ababa and based in San Francisco, whose music draws on Ethio-jazz, folk and soul. Her work includes the albums On a Day Like This... and When the People Move, the Music Moves Too; she also co-founded the Nile Project, a musical collaboration involving artists from countries along the Nile. Meklit performed material from When the People Move, the Music Moves Too for NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert, accompanied by a compact band. She has also brought her Ethio-jazz repertoire to SFJAZZ and the Monterey Jazz Festival.
