The Mekons are a British band formed by art students in Leeds in 1977. Emerging from punk and post-punk, they later incorporated country and folk songwriting into records including Fear and Whiskey and The Mekons Rock 'n' Roll; their early singles include “Never Been in a Riot” and “Where Were You?” In 2017, The Mekons marked their 40th anniversary at Mekonville, a weekend event at The Old Hall in Suffolk that brought together musicians from different versions of the group. Five years later, their 45th-anniversary tour included concerts in Britain and the United States.
