Artist
Melissa Laveaux is a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist, born in Montreal to Haitian parents and raised in Ottawa. She plays folk, blues and rock shaped by Haitian musical traditions, and is known for the albums Camphor & Copper, Dying Is a Wild Night and Radyo Siwèl. The latter draws on songs connected to Haitian resistance during the US occupation of Haiti. NPR Music hosted Melissa Laveaux for a Tiny Desk Concert in 2018, where she performed “Nan Fon Bwa,” “Angeli-ko” and “Jolibwa.” She sang in Haitian Creole and played electric guitar in a band performance centered on material from Radyo Siwèl.
